How to survive in Fortnite Battle Royale 14 tips

Fortnite Battle Royale

I’ve been playing Fortnite Battle Royale off and on since it first went free to play on the P, I’m not the biggest fan, but neither have I put in much game time.

I game across this guide by Kieth Stuart in the Guardian the other day the other day that has helped me a little… or more curbed my desire to jump out of the bus at the first opportunity, go in guns blazing, and have my arse handed to me within the first couple of minutes 🙂

How to survive in Fortnite if you’re old and slow

Your reflexes are shot and your hand-eye coordination is dodgy – so how do you keep up with the kids in the world’s biggest video game?

13 rules of how to survive Fortnite Battle Royale

  1. Stay on the battle bus until the end
    1. If you want to live long enough to collect a couple of guns and some resources, stay on the bus until the last few seconds and then land somewhere near the coast.
  2. . Land on a roof when you eject from the battle bus
    1. You’ll want to land near a house, where you’re most likely to find weapons and chests. But it’s even better to land on the roof. This gives you a height advantage on anyone else nearby, and also means you can quickly chop your way through each floor, grabbing all the goodies from the top of the house to the bottom.
  3. Prioritise weapons over resources in the opening seconds
    1. As soon as you’ve landed, you need to find something useful to fight with just in case someone else has dropped nearby.
    2. At this stage anything will do, though a tactical shotgun or submachine gun will be best because it’s likely to be a close encounter.
    3. Don’t engage anyone unless you really have to. You’re not Rambo.
  4. Learn about weapon grading, with each grade, the weapon’s damage capabilities improve, so always prioritise rarer weapons.
    1. There are five grades of weapon in Fortnite:
      1. gray (common)
      2. green (uncommon)
      3. blue (rare)
      4. purple (epic)
      5. orange (legendary)
  5. Learn to make a basic fort – fortifications can soak up damage so your health and armour doesn’t need to
  6. An assault rifle and a shotgun are your must-have weapons
  7. If you want to practise shooting, go to Tilted Towers
  8. Pack your perfect inventory
    1. Many go for three weapons (short, medium and long range)
    2. bandages or a health kit, and some sort of projectile, such as a grenade or clinger.
    3. If you pick up anything that boosts your shields, use it immediately – it’ll free up an inventory slot and there’s no benefit to saving them.
    4. If you’re not planning to get in many firefights, prioritise health kits and large shield potions over bandages and small bottles.
    5. As a newcomer, when you do get into a fight, it’s likely you’ll need massive medical intervention rather than a plaster and a kiss on your sore bit.
  9. Use sound to your advantage – listen out for enemies, crouch to minimise your movement noise
  10. Stay away from open ground – those who are not seen are not shot at
  11. Stay away from close encounters – if you have ranged weapons use them
  12. Tweak the controls – each master to his own style
  13. Watch the experts – see what works for those who consistently win games
  14. Have fun – why else do we play games 🙂

GTA V Tips and Tricks to help make life easier in Los Santos

GTA V Tips and Tricks
Here’re a summary of nice to know GTA V Tips and Tricks within the Los Santos World, that I’ve realised over the past few days.

Melee (XBOX)

  • trigger = attack
  • while locked on, holding Left Trigger
  • X dodge
  • B Counter
  • A sprint as usual

stripper bars

Great location to lose the cops… like you need an excuse to enter
Clothes shops can also be used, although perusing garments isn’t quite as interesting

drink machines

Full health for a dollar… although I can’t seem to find anywhere yet that will serve me fast food?
Who doesn’t love a mouth full of Sprunk?

7/11’s and garages

As in real life, great locations for munchies and other health giving beverages + can be held up for $’s

jet planes

The smaller jets can be stolen from the airport early on.
I recommend coming in through the gates/fence from the South.
And you can then park them in Sandy Shores Hanger… where you also have access to a chopper, that in turn opens up the parachute and the true scale of the island.
Note the stashed stolen aircraft is not there on each visit, however I think this is controlled by if you arrive at the hanger while in a current mission.

character Special abilities

Use these as often as useful, kicked in by pressing down both sticks… but you already knew that 😉

  • Michael’s ability is to slow down time while in a gunfight, similar to Dead Eye in Red Dead Redemption or Bullet time in the Max Payne series
  • The special ability that Franklin can use is the ability to slow down time while driving…. think behind the wheel bullet time, where the vehicle can turn on a pin head
  • Trevor’s special ability is to deal out extra, and take less, damage and he can also perform a unique melee attack when the special meter is activated.

swap characters often

Finished a mission with one of the 3 characters?
Need to travel across the city?
Swap, adventure with another dude, then switch back to the other character.
You’ll more than likely be closer to where you need to be, and if it’s Trevor it’s usually humorous 🙂

motorcycles and quads

Real fun, zip through the traffic quicker, and scale the tallest mountain
Crashing critically can cost you the best part of $1k in medical bills

$25k suitcase

Remains of a shoot out, off the circular highway in the North West, on the track that leads South East from Paleto Cove… found with Trev and Frank, maybe Mick?

flashing motorists

I car just flashed me while I was riding a motorcycle the wrong way up the highway, to warn me of a police speed trap!
How cool is that?

Parappa the Rapper Easter Eggs

This is the 1st time I’ve heard of these Easter Eggs… ain’t the interwebs grand 🙂
Parappa The Rapper
Best Ending
Get a COOL rating (finish the level with a cool rating) on every level and you get a new level where you watch Sunny Funny and Katy Kat dance on a table. You can change the view with the D-pad, zoom in and out with R1 and L1, and change Sunny’s and Katy’s clothes with the X and Triangle buttons.

Easy Fleaswallow Mode
In the third level, ignore the beat given to you at the top. Instead, follow Fleaswallow’s beat to the button given at the top of the screen (while holding left). If done correctly, Parrapa will only the utter the first syllable of each sentence while alternating between Good and Cool. This is a funny and easy way to get past Fleaswallow’s stage.
